Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
